Gotta love NORMAL pregnancy and birth

I wanted to share with you all a link to Amy's blog. She had a darling little girl on August 12th. She was over 42 weeks pregnant when Caroline finally came into this world. She had to be evicted through some natural techniques, but there she was, big, healthy, and beautiful. Amy was cared for by midwives throughout her pregnancy and gave birth to her perfect little girl AT HOME, yes, ON PURPOSE! If you browse her page you'll see that she was in a car accident a week prior and signed out of the hospital after an u/s showed that she and baby were safe, healthy, and perfect. She signed out AMA, later received a call that the u/s showed her baby was "15% too big!" For what? We don't know, cuz she came out 100% perfect. Education about your body, your rights, and your options can truly empower you. Amy is my hero, a true testiment to what trusting your body really means. For generations women's bodies have been giving birth. I think our uteruses know something we don't! :-)

28 Weeks, the update plus!

OK, so now we hit 28 weeks, officially the dreaded 3rd trimester. Everyone has said all along, "oh, you feel great now, but just you wait until your 3rd trimester." Here's what I have to say to all you Debby Downers...PPFFFFFT! It's all in your attitude. Sure, it's probably not going to be the greatest, but I intend to stay positive, keep doing my yoga to feel fresh and stretched, and I'm sure I'll be fine. So I don't wanna hear it. Oh, and if you don't mind, stop asking me "how are you feeling?" It makes me a little batty, I feel like I should tell you I feel like crap to get people off my back and stop asking. I feel fine. I'll let you all know if I start dragging butt or start feeling poorly. :-)

Yesterday was my 28 week appointment. Weight is holding steady from my last appointment (as planned! HA!) and the belly is now measuring at 29cm which is great because either Mr. Man had a growth spurt last time or they measured me wrong, but I was about 3cm too large at my last appointment. Today I'm only 1cm over my week, which is perfect! Baby is still very active (I'm supposed to feel him move 10 times in one hour during his active periods...yeah right, try 10 times in 5 minutes! for 20 or 30 minutes straight!!) and his heartbeat is strong and steady in the 150s, right where he should be right now. No health concerns, life is good. Aidan probably weighs in at about 2 pounds. For those of you counting, that's 2 pounds in 6 months for Aidan, in the next 12 weeks or so, he'll put on another 5 or 6 pounds (but only grows about another 5 to 7 inches)! He's going to grow very fast now, and I can really feel the stretch. I have an appointment in 4 weeks, and then I go to every other week. What an adventure!

I included the weekly blurb and my belly shot, not the best, B isn't so great at taking belly shots.
------
By your 28th week of pregnancy, your baby is about 16 inches long and weighs 3-1/2 to 4 pounds. The skin is wrinkled but will become less so as more subcutaneous fat, the layer of fat just under the skin, is laid down in the next few weeks. Fine downy hair, called lanugo, and a waxy white protective substance covering the skin, called vernix, are present on the baby's body. The baby's eyes are open. The eyebrows and eyelashes were formed in the fourth month. The baby sucks its thumb and its taste buds have developed. The baby kicks, stretches, and moves frequently in the uterus. These movements, which are readily observable to others, are often keenly felt by the mother.

Shame On Me!

Well, I guess the Turk isn't going to post about his trip. I'll work on him some more, but I can no longer make any promises. That and I am a slacker myself recently! Truth is there isn't much to blog about just now. Baris and I are very excited about our trip to Virginia, though! We have a 6am flight out of here on Thursday.

We did finally decide to buy a new digital camera though. Our old one was not in such great shape and well out of warranty. This new one is really great and is slim enough to carry it in the purse or diaper bag later on. 9.1 Megapixels, that's more than double what our old one was and we paid more than $100 less for it. Anyway, that means that the belly shots will be in better quality now.

The belly is starting to take over. This Wednesday officially puts me into my 3rd trimester, 28 weeks. Time really flew by. I thought this would be the longest 9 months of my life, and it felt like forever in the beginning, but now things are almost wrapped up, this pregnancy is actually almost over, and before we know it, Aidan will be here.

The other exciting news (well, exciting to me) is that thanks to my friend Julia, I stumbled across a GREAT sale on Fuzzibunz cloth diapers. They were down from $19.95 each to just $14.95 each. So we bought 15 and they should be here when we get back from Virginia. It's super tempting to go and order some more, but I do want to have a mish mash of the Fuzzibunz and the BumGenius. So I might get just a couple more fuzzibunz before the baby comes (Baris saw two patterns he liked with zoo critters and trains), and I still need to order my BumGenius 12 pack. Then I will be really set with diapers. Now all I need is a baby butt to put them on! Haha!

I'll have more interesting stuff to post about after we get back from Virginia. We have lots of plans while we're there aside from just the shower, we're really looking forward to a great trip.

24 and 26 weeks

Ok, I can't believe I waited a whole week to post. I was sort of waiting on B to get his stuff together and post about his trip. I'll go nag him again in a minute.

Today was my birthday! FUN FUN! I totally forgot about it entirely until I logged on to my doula message board this morning and they were all wishing me a happy b-day. LOL! So I'm 24.

AAAANNNNND, today I'm 26 weeks pregnant, so here's the obligitory update. I think it feels like he's in there butt down and facing my left side, that's where all the strong kicks are!

----
The network of nerves in your baby's ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. He may now be able to hear both your voice and your partner's as you chat with each other. He's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of his lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when he's born and takes that first gulp of air. And he's continuing to put on baby fat. He now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches (an English hothouse cucumber) from head to heel. If you're having a boy, his testicles are beginning to descend into his scrotum — a trip that will take two to three days.
---

B took me to my favorite baby store (PeaPods in St. Paul) and I bought 4 new BumGenius 3.0 diapers, and 2 packs of cloth wipes! Who gets excited about this?! I DO! I'm totally stoked, I got lime green ones and blue ones, they're so cute. Now my master stash is 5 whole diapers! LOL But I'm so excited. I might even be getting a few fitteds from a friend, those will probably be best when baby is very small, but the BumGenius are still supposed to fit a newborn, we'll see how big he is. We might use either fitteds or disposables until the BumGenius fits him a little better. I would prefer to use fitteds with covers, but we'll see what happens!

Signing off for a snuggle,
Megz
